At APC Manchester, helping to combat climate change is a key priority. The climate emergency is the biggest challenge we face as a society and we are determined to help avert it. Instead of seeking comfort in warm words, we are taking practical steps to reduce our environmental impact, and safeguard the planet for generations to come. We feel that it is important to give our customers peace of mind that their items are being delivered in a sustainable way.
Our Green Depot
Climate action starts at home, in APC Manchester’s case, our Trafford Park Depot. We have undertaken a number of important improvements to the building to make it more energy efficient. Low efficiency fluorescent tubes have been replaced by ultra-efficient LEDs and our Warehouse is now mostly lit by natural light. We have also installed a new state of the art air heating system, which heats air coming into the building with a fraction of the energy needed by conventional heaters. All of this is powered by our rooftop solar cells, which generate enough electricity to both power the depot, and direct excess electricity into Manchester’s grid.
Cutting Fleet Emissions
Cutting the emissions of our fleet is of critical importance to us. We have recently purchased three electric vans from Warwick University and are in the process of upscaling them for delivery use. At the same time, we are willing to acknowledge the limits of electric vehicle technology. We understand that an over reliance on electric, at this stage, would place undue pressure on the electricity grid and have a negative environmental impact. We are committed to a pragmatic approach to cutting our fleet’s emissions based on science, not symbolism.
A Vision for the Future
APC Manchester also has a green vision for the future. There will always be more we can do to build a more environmentally sustainable business. We are constantly developing new ideas to cut our own carbon emissions, and to help the wider community reduce theirs. We will not be resting on our laurels.
